Parakeets and drum sticks

We have trees in our garden at Lakeside which grow long thin seedpods known locally as drum sticks.

These are a common ingredient in curries and our staff avail themselves of many of our drumsticks.  We do, however, like to allow a few to remain on the trees and ripen, they are then very dry and inedible for humans – but the Rose-ringed parakeets love them!

It is now the season for ripe drumsticks!

  1. What beautiful pictures — I love the first & second ones! I actually just learned about this tree, from a Thai neighbor of mine… Another neighbor has one growing in his yard (Indians owned the home before him). But I didn’t know about the “drumsticks” — fascinating (and I’m going to look later, to see if they have them)! Thanks for sharing!
